Understanding God's Heart For The PoorSample
Sowing and Reaping
Paul discusses harvesting to encourage the Corinthians to be generous in their giving. If you sow lots of seeds, you will reap more than if you sow only a few seeds. It’s simple math! On the one hand, this seems to be suggesting an ulterior motive to giving—that we will benefit more in the end. However, God’s kingdom works differently!
He blesses those who demonstrate a willingness to give. In His economy, it is wise to give much to those who will pass on His generosity.
Are we generous with what we have, or do we hoard and keep it for ourselves? God loves a cheerful and generous giver. Paul encourages us to embrace generous giving with our whole hearts.
Reflection
One of the best ways to break the hold money can have on us is to determine to give generously, and to start doing it. As we see the benefits our giving has on others, we will be filled with joy and will desire to give even more. Give it a try!
Prayer
Father, thank you for all you have given me. I pray that you would find in me a willing heart, eager to give and help those with less than myself. Amen.
