Understanding God's Heart For The PoorSample

Lifting the Poor up from the Dust
What a beautiful picture we have in this psalm. The Creator God is not content with the brokenness of this world. It bothers him to see the gap widening between the rich and the poor. He has a bias for the poor. His desire is that they be lifted from the dust and from the ash heap, to see his children live as princes.
It is a tragedy and a travesty that in the 21st century one in nine people go to bed hungry every night. There are places in the world where one in five children don’t reach their fifth birthday.
God desires change. He has equipped the church to act as his hands and feet, to bring about that change on the earth.
Reflection
Every year the people of Hillé Bar village in Chad face a hunger gap. It starts when their food supplies run out and ends, months later, when a new harvest is ready. Here you can read about Yasmin and her family, who live in Chad. You can find out how you can help to lift the poor from the ash heap.
Prayer
Dear Lord, we pray for those who are struggling to find enough to feed their families. We pray that you would stir people across the world to know your heart for the poor and to act in your name to end this suffering. Amen.
