Elevate: A Conversation About Doing Life Together

DAY 5 OF 7

Known. That word has always struck a chord with me. In my mind, I flash through the people who know me best: my family, close friends, and loved ones. I can’t help but also feel the deep disconnect between the mask I wear and what’s deep down. The mask is the me who can meet all expectations, have it all together, and never be shaken up. But underneath it is the me who cried in the car on the way, lost my cool that morning, and has never been farther from having it together.

If you are anything like me, you too have worn the mask. Maybe it has become so comfortable you’re afraid to let your guard down. Trust me, I feel you. Still, God says that we are to live in harmony with other Jesus followers, being of one mind, one thought, and one purpose. How can we be of one mind and purpose, if we aren’t honest with those beside us? Our community of believers is supposed to make us stronger, but it can only do that when our unity is authentic. A team that doesn’t know one of its players is injured is not nearly as strong as the one that did and helped that player recover and get healthy. So today, if you know you have been wearing a mask, I encourage you to show up with those you’re living life with as your authentic self. Step out of your comfort zone and allow others to truly know you.

Today, pray and ask God for help showing up authentically with your small group, closest friends, or whoever you consider your close community of people.

About this Plan

Elevate: A Conversation About Doing Life Together

What is doing life together all about? Is this just about hanging out? Is it only something that happens at church with our small group? In other words, when it comes to authentic community in high school, “what’s the point?” We’ll raise the bar for the conversation about what doing life together with others is all about and how it can impact your high school experience.
