What is the basic stance of a human being towards God? Thankfulness. We are thankful for everything we have at God’s hand. When we feel deprived or attacked, we do well to remember what we still have: plants for food, drinks to enjoy, all manner of delicious and nourishing ingredients from which to gain pleasure. God’s providence secures our lives, and the world he has created is a daily joy. Let us not stop thanking him!

When was the last time you were simply grateful to God for all of his provisions, rather than praying for the things you don’t have, the life you don’t lead, and the desires that have not been fulfilled?

Lord of all, we give you thanks for the love you have shown us in providing everything for our enjoyment, for your constant goodness and for life itself. Amen.
