The Spirit of Prayer

DAY 4 OF 12

your kingdom come

PERSPECTIVE

The perspective of prayer is not about your needs, it’s about the Kingdom. When we praise, we align our hearts to the perspective of God. And when we start to pray for his Kingdom, we align our hearts to the perspective of the Kingdom.

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Your Kingdom come, is a big statement to remind us of some big principles. God’s Kingdom came through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus- God’s Kingdom has come (Mark 1:15, Matthew 10:7). As citizens of the new Kingdom (Philippians 3:20) our heart cry and mission are to see his Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus is King of Kings (Revelation 19:16) and we now live as faithful participants and subjects of the Kingdom of God, in anticipation of the day he will return to usher in his Kingdom on earth (Revelation 19-22). As citizens of this Kingdom, we live our life devoted to the King, taking up our cross daily (Luke 9:23). And just like our King we know that glory will come in suffering at times (Romans 8:17). Our heart beats for his Kingdom. But his Kingdom is not of this world, it is counter-cultural to the kingdom of this world. We are called to live, think and act in line with his Kingdom.

And finally, we live as ambassadors of His Kingdom in power and authority. 1 Corinthians 4:20, describes that the Kingdom is not just of words but of power. Jesus wants us to live this out, he sent his disciples out in authority (Mark 6:7) and he has given that same authority to us (Luke 10:17). Jesus overcame sin and death so we would walk in and bring to others this freedom, the hope of eternal life to the earth as his ambassadors.

This one statement of the Lord’s prayer brings all that into perspective, “your Kingdom come” is about aligning our hearts with the mission of heaven, his Kingdom come becomes the purpose of your prayer. As you pray for his Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven, again your heart aligns with the mission of Christ, your vision expands to what he is doing, and your perspective re-established to his cause and purpose.

Prayer: Father, I thank you that you brought your Kingdom to earth through the life, death, resurrection and ascension of your son, Jesus. I thank you that I am part of your Kingdom and I ask that you turn my heart to pray and seek your Kingdom on this earth as it is in heaven.

KEY PRAYER POINT: PRAY FOR THE YOUTH IN YOUR CHURCH THAT THEY WOULD KNOW JESUS AND FIND HIS PURPOSE IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
