Walking With God: 7 Shorts for Your Life Journey

DAY 5 OF 7

Anointed To Serve

In Luke 22:31-32, Jesus tells Peter, "Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

The passage highlights two important aspects: the sifting of Peter and the assurance of Jesus’ prayer. Satan desired to test and shake Peter’s faith, just as wheat is sifted to separate the chaff. However, Jesus intercedes for Peter, praying that his faith would not fail.

This story draws a parallel to the contrasting paths taken by Peter and Judas after betraying Jesus. While both initially failed, Peter’s response was different. He repented and sought forgiveness, while Judas succumbed to guilt and despair. Peter’s repentance demonstrated the significance of genuine faith.

The faith Jesus referred to is the revelation from God that Peter received in Matthew 16:13-8, where Peter proclaimed Jesus as Christ. This confession, inspired by God, formed the foundation of Peter’s faith that would not fail him.

Peter’s journey continued, and not long after, he stood up on the day of Pentecost, empowered by the Holy Spirit. His transformation from a wavering disciple to a strong leader exemplifies the impact of a faith that endures and strengthens others.

In conclusion, we are reminded that while challenges and trials may come, our faith in Christ can sustain us. Like Peter, we may face moments of doubt or temptation, but through repentance and reliance on God’s grace, we can be anointed to serve and strengthen our brothers and sisters in Christ.

The enemy believes that we have been sifted to fail, but God tells us that we have been anointed to serve.
