When you go to the plant nursery and choose plants for your garden, you can’t just take them home, throw them in the yard and hope that they grow. No, must do some things to make sure they grow and are healthy. Plants need nourishment and oxygen; they need to be planted in good soil. They can’t be ignored and left unattended. You need to continue to water them, feed them, and make sure they’re flourishing.

We are like plants. We’re not going to grow if we do nothing and hope for the best. We need nourishment and oxygen. We need to be planted. We need to stay connected to our source of nourishment. A plant pulled from the soil and left on the path will stop growing.

Our nourishment comes from staying connected. We’re nourished by praying, learning, spending time with others, and taking in God’s Word! Just like we need to breathe in and out continually, to grow in Christ we need to pray continually. We need to breathe in prayer! We need to be planted in good soil, in God’s house with other believers.
