21 Days of Prayer and Fasting With Rock City ChurchSample
DAY 3: HEART OF GOD
Read: Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:4-5; 1 John 4:19; John 3:16; 1 John 4:8
If gratitude reveals the goodness of God and holiness reveals His trustworthiness, the heart of God reveals His love for us. Of all the attributes of God, His love may be the most challenging to comprehend, apart from the lesser versions of human love that have shaped our understanding of what love is. Even the greatest moments of human love do not compare to the unconditional, sacrificial, selfless, and agape love that is of and from God.
While we often correlate love with our emotions, agape love transcends emotive experience and is most evident at the cross. God loves us, not because we deserve or have earned it, but because He is love, and it is in His nature to love us. His love is the motivator of all – from creation to the cross, and ultimately through eternity, it all flows from the love He has for us.
When we meditate on God’s love, it should inherently bring us to our knees. We should be overwhelmed that the Creator of the universe had us in mind when His Son, Jesus, paid the price for our sins on the cross. This should also serve as our motivation to love others the way Christ loves us.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional love that is far greater than I could possibly imagine. Forgive me for any time I have taken Your love for granted. Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross for my sins and for finding my soul worth dying for. Help me to love others the way You love me and allow my life to be a reflection of Your love.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. How does God demonstrate His love for us?
2. How does your relationship with God impact your relationship with others?
3. In what ways can you imitate God’s love?
