What Do You Have to Give?

"They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh."

When the wise men saw Jesus, they instantly worshipped Him and offered their treasures to Him. Think about that for a minute . . . Jesus was a baby, born to a woman of no real significance in life. The wise men were Magi, priests of high social standing. Yet the wise men recognized instantly that Jesus was different; He wasn’t a normal baby. They worshiped Him, offering their gifts.

What gifts do you have to offer Jesus? Many teens may think they have nothing to give. That’s not true. You have many treasures to offer Jesus. You can offer to feed His sheep, (John 21:17)—your friends, family, anyone you meet. You can give the treasure of your time: serving others, volunteering in your church, stopping your busy schedule to talk with your family. You could give unconditional love to the people in your circle and those outside your circle. Remember it is not what you give; it is the heart with which you give.

Father,

Thank you for sending your only Son to be born, to live, and to die for me. I want to give back to You— anything and everything that I have. Because like the wise men, I acknowledge Jesus is Lord of all.

Try to picture yourself going to see baby Jesus. How do you think the Magi knew he was different and worthy to be worshipped?

Have you ever thought about giving your treasure to Jesus? What would that look like for you?

Why is it important to give Jesus anything? Does that make a difference?
