Seen & Saved

When was the last time you felt like someone REALLY saw you? You’ve probably had moments where you felt completely invisible at home, at school, or on that team. Is there someone in your life who looks you in the eyes when they are talking to you? No cellphone in their hands, no distractions, just you and them.

Zacchaeus probably felt invisible for a while, BUT THEN Jesus showed up. It says that Jesus looked up in the tree and saw this well-dressed tax collector trying to get a good look at him. You see, that’s all that Zacchaeus thought was going to happen. He was just going to see Jesus, but instead, PLOT TWIST, Jesus also sees him.

Jesus even calls him by name and tells Zacchaeus that he wants to go to his house, hang out, and share a meal with HIM.

“With WHO?” That’s what the crowd was thinking. In fact, we know that in their grumbling, they couldn't believe that Jesus would go and spend time with someone who was a thief.

If Jesus saw YOU (spoiler alert, He already does see you now) with all your mess, doubt, sin, and questions, do you think Jesus would want to hang out with you? I think a lot of us would be just as surprised as the crowd. To think that Jesus would SEE us, let alone SAVE us! But that is just who Jesus is. He came for people like you and me.
