CounterculturalSample

One thing we can know for certain in this world? The seasons will change. And when they do, the way we dress ourselves to move through them changes too. We bundle up under coats, hats, and scarves to move through the cold of winter. Then, as spring comes, we shed our layers and step out into the warmth and fresh air again. As summer rolls in, we find ways to keep cool and seek shelter from the sweltering sun. And then, as fall comes around, we slowly put our layers back on and begin bracing ourselves for the chill of winter to return.
Well, the same is true in our spiritual lives. Every time we enter a new circumstance or face a new season, we have to put on what God has given us to get through it. We have to dress ourselves for the seasons we’re in. In times of stress and struggle, we have to put on patience and peace. In times of happiness and celebration, we have to wear joy and gratitude well. And in moments we’re tempted to boast or brag, we can choose to put on humility. Take stock of the season you’re in right now. What qualities might you need to “put on” spiritually to help you navigate your way through it well?

About this Plan

Jesus had a way of taking ideas that everyone understood and flipping them upside down to show His followers something new. We’re going to look at some of Jesus’ most countercultural ideas and dive into the way they turned preconceived notions and expectations on their heads, ultimately teaching us what it looks like to take Jesus’ lead and follow His countercultural example in our own lives today.
