Celebrate Father’s Day: A Time to Honour Fathers

DAY 3 OF 4

One of the most famous dads in the Bible didn’t have any children until he was very old. This man was known as Abram. He was a God-fearing man, but he and his wife Sarai hadn’t been able to have any children. They were now both very old, too old to have children, but what seemed impossible all changed one day when God came to Abram.

God promised Abram that he would have as many descendants as there are stars in the sky. He also changed Abram’s name to Abraham and Sarai’s name Sarah, because they would become the father and mother of many nations. Abraham remained faithful to God and when he was a hundred years old, and Sarah ninety, they gave birth to a son just as God had promised. They named him Isaac and he was the beginning of Abraham becoming the father of nations.

Abraham is looked upon as one of the fathers of the Christian faith and is even mentioned in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament, which was written centuries after he was alive. Dads don’t have to do it alone, they have God to help them and lead them as they help and lead us. So honour your dad or a great man in your life and take time to appreciate him.

About this Plan

Celebrate Father’s Day: A Time to Honour Fathers

The Bible teaches “honour your father and mother” and Father’s Day is a time to do just that. We can honour our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, teachers, friends, and the special men in your life. Learn about Abraham, one of the most famous fathers in the Bible. But most importantly learn that we have a Heavenly Father. We are part of a much bigger family, the family of God.
