Mighty & MercifulSample
God's compassionate guidance
READ ROMANS 2
Christianity is unique compared to other religions in that our God is not spiteful and vindictive, but gracious and generous. Where other religions may believe that gods exist as punishers, our Lord’s primary purpose is to seek relationship with us. Understanding this helps us see His might and justice throughout the Bible.
Taking this perspective helps us better comprehend stories like Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1–29). Knowing that God’s character is merciful, slow to anger and compassionate, we understand that the corrective actions God makes are after multiple attempts to correct and realign people with His heart.
Thinking of your life and the lives of those around you, you might see times where, instead of punishment, God was merciful with you in your disobedience. He may have guided you, convicted you or corrected you over time, which helped you move towards change in your life.
His might and power are never used to control and oppress, but always to bring awareness to His glory. He helps His children have relationship with Him. His strength and power through the Holy Spirit help us to show love to those around us, putting their needs before our selfish desires and adding vigor to the unity between His people.
May we always remember God’s wonderful mercy, and never underestimate His supernatural power.
