The Morning Hunt – Day Twelve – A Little Prick
The lion's worst enemy might come as a surprise; it turns out the porcupine is the thorn in the big cat's side, or rather mouth, as a lion tricked into sniffing the clever porcupine's sharp quills often ends up with one or more stuck in its jaw for life.
A porcupine is not a part of a lion’s diet, but in the absence of other prey, sometimes the lions will get courageous enough to go after these rodents. The quills also can get stuck in their front sinus cavity and ruin their sense of smell; the result is that lions turn to unnatural prey like humans and livestock.
The lone male lion is in more danger from the porcupine as the lions that belong to Prides have their peers help to pull out the quills. Unremoved quills often lead to infections that make these young males too weak to hunt their typical prey.
Pay attention to the intricate details of your day as the enemy is slick. Therefore, he is not likely to try to get you with one of "the big sins." It is not the pornography that grabs you; it is the Instagram model. Most men do not wake up one day and cheat on their wives; it starts out as an inappropriate conversation with a coworker. Little foxes destroy our vine.
Having a community not only provides for our growth but also allows for our healing when we are wounded. As Men, we must be willing to admit we need help, and we must admit it early before the small infections take us out completely, or we become incapable of doing what we are hardwired to do. Be sober. Be vigilant. Be wary of the little temptations.
Titus 2:6 ESV - Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
James 4:7 NLT - So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Titus 2:2 ESV - Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.
Ephesians 6:10-13 NLT - 10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
James 1:13-16 NASB - 13 No one is to say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted [by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it has run its course, brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers and sisters.
About this Plan
The King of the Jungle. The symbol of Jesus and Kingdoms throughout history. The lion is one of the most majestic and awe-inspiring animals on the planet. Just as the lion is unique and designed to reign, so is God’s design for Manhood. The Morning Hunt is a 14-day Men’s Devotional that looks to teach valuable and practical lessons from a lion’s perspective.
