GOD’S bigger than your mistakes

Have you ever felt like your mistakes make you unfit for God to use? Do you feel like you messed up too bad for God to change your story? Samson’s story is a comeback story much like many of our stories.

When Samson was born, God commanded his parents to never cut his hair as a commitment to the plan God had for his life. When Samson was older, he met a woman named Delilah that he found attractive and they started spending a lot of time together. What Samson didn’t know was that Delilah was secretly working for the Philistines, Samson’s enemy.

As Samson and Delilah’s relationship grew, she tried to tempt him into revealing where his strength came from. But Samson knew he couldn’t give up that information because it was a commandment from God. Delilah would ask and ask, until finally Samson gave in and told her about his hair. That very same night, Delilah told the Philistines, who cut his hair, captured him and tortured him.

The Bible tells us that we will all be tempted, even Jesus himself was tempted, but it’s our goal to always follow the commandments God gave us. Sometimes, because we are imperfect people, we mess up and it leaves us feeling guilty and shameful. Sometimes we feel like God doesn’t want anything to do with us because of our mistake.

But God, in His everlasting love for us, gives us grace, so that when we mess up we can go running to Him and He will pick us back up.

At the end of the story, Samson was captured and lost all of the strength God had given him. But he cried out to God and asked to be used one last time. And because he ran back to God with a sincere heart, God heard him and used him one last time.

Samson’s God-given mission was to rescue Egypt from the Philistines and in the end, as we read in the verse of today, God used him to kill more Philistines in his death than he killed in his whole life.

God wasn’t done with Samson because of a mistake, and God’s not done with you either. Even when you fall, God’s hand is open and ready to help you get back up!

I encourage you to think about a mistake you have made and bring it to God; ask him for forgiveness and then ask Him to help you come back! You are not your mistakes… you are a comeback kid, and God has big plans for your life!

Lord, help me not to fall into temptation when it comes my way. Help me to be strong and to rely on you. And if I do fall, help me to remember your love for me, and help me to remember that you are with me, writing my comeback story! Amen!
