5 Reasons to Integrate Your Faith and Work: Reason Three
In this series, we’re sharing five reasons why incorporating your faith into your work has great value. Reason three is this: God’s wisdom provides better results than any consultant.
In David Green’s book, “More Than a Hobby,” he discusses his decision to close his Hobby Lobby stores on Sundays. Even though he learned it could cost him $100 million annually, David turned to God for counsel.
David followed God’s wisdom, allowing his people a day a week for rest and worship. It turned out to be one of his best decisions ever.
Proverbs 8:10-11 teaches, “Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.”
God's instruction, knowledge, and wisdom far surpasses any consultant you will ever hire. When you are faced with major decisions turning to God makes far more sense than investing thousands on consultants.
We still need wise counselors, and there is nothing wrong with hiring those wise counselors, but shouldn't you start with pursuing God's wisdom first? After all, God is the best counselor you will ever find.
Questions for Reflection
- Think about a time when you faced a difficult decision in your work or personal life. How did you seek guidance, and how might relying on God’s wisdom have changed the outcome?
- Reflect on areas of your life where you prioritize worldly success or financial gain over spiritual wisdom. What steps can you take to align your priorities with Proverbs 8:10-11?
- Consider David Green’s decision to close Hobby Lobby stores on Sundays despite the financial cost. Is there a decision in your life where following God’s wisdom might require sacrifice? How would you approach it?
