Be Faithful in the Little Things

Zechariah 4:10 For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth. (NKJV)

In Acts 8:26-40, we see the story of Philip the Evangelist baptizing“a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury. (NKJV)”

Philip had just been used by the Lord to spark a revival in the city of Samaria (Acts 8:4-8). God moved powerfully through him there, and after the apostles heard what had happened, they sent Peter and John to establish Kingdom culture in the city. Once Philip's assignment in Samaria was complete, the Lord spoke to him and directed him out of the city. As he followed God’s lead, he encountered the Ethiopian eunuch.

It would’ve been easy for Philip to switch off the ministry mindset after leaving a city where he’d just preached the Gospel and seen God perform mighty signs and wonders. But he didn’t, because he knew that every soul is valuable to God. Philip, understanding the worth of both the one and the many, took the time to minister to the Ethiopian man and baptize him.

Church history tells us that the Ethiopian eunuch Philip baptized, went back to Ethiopia and spread the gospel. He is believed to be the first to bring the message of Jesus to his homeland, helping to establish one of the oldest Christian communities in the world. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church honors him as a significant figure in its early history.

Whether we are ministering to one person or a large audience, God calls us to be faithful in the little things. When we steward what God has given us, even if it seems small, He will entrust us with greater things.
