Ambassadors for Christ
2 Corinthians 5: 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (NASB)
God set us free, and in His love, He gave us a mandate. He asks us to, Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (NIV)
We are called to carry His Good News to a lost and broken world.
Jesus tells us in John 15:19, “you do not belong to the world.” Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:11 that we are, “visitors and strangers in this world.” Our final destination, heaven, is secured through faith in what Jesus accomplished on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9), but our mission now is to establish His Kingdom here on earth and bring as many people home with us as possible.
If we look at the phrase, "We are ambassadors" in the Greek we see this word, "presbeuó" - a role of significant responsibility. In ancient times, ambassadors were revered as individuals who upheld the authority and interests of their rulers. -Strongs Concordance
Ambassadors were tasked with conveying important messages and engaging in negotiations. In the New Testament, the term presbeuó highlights the early Christians' mission to share the gospel, seeing themselves as representatives of Christ, the highest authority.
Christ has told us that we represent Him, and we speak for His Kingdom. You and I are ambassadors for King Jesus and His Kingdom. We are Christ’s co-workers (1 Corinthians 3:9), here to establish the ways of His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
We’re here to appeal to the world: be reconciled to your loving Father. Turn from sin, receive forgiveness and new life in Christ, and walk in your true identity of righteousness in Him.
Prayer: Lord, I ask that you show me how to walk like one of Your Ambassadors.
