Get Back Up
We cling to all the verses in the Bible about God being with us, prospering our ways, and lifting us up. These verses are a source of comfort, offering us reassurance in times of uncertainty or frustration. Today’s verse speaks of God’s faithfulness and how he directs our steps. It’s incredibly encouraging, but we often pass by a small section of it. Verse 24 says that we will not fall even though we stumble. It doesn’t say if, or maybe. It says that we will stumble. Times of difficulty are not just a possibility; they are inevitable.
It's easy to gloss over certain parts of Scripture. It’s tempting to believe that walking in God’s will means we won’t fail. We often equate our struggles with mistakes we’ve made. We assume we’ve wandered off God’s path, done something wrong, or that God has somehow left us. We think he might be displeased or distant. As his beloved children, we must remember that his love and kindness don’t depend on our success. He is faithful even when we aren’t. He always meets us with mercy and grace. Failure is not the end of the story in the kingdom of God.
Today’s verse reminds us that stumbling is not a sign of abandonment. It’s simply part of the process. Defeat teaches us how to lean on the Lord in greater ways. It’s an opportunity to learn and grow. Through times of difficulty, we learn more about God’s provision than during times of ease. We experience his sustaining grace firsthand, and our faith is strengthened.
If you have believed that you should never fail, it’s not too late to change your mindset. Don’t let yourself be derailed by your very normal struggles and frustrations. Instead, view them as a fresh chance to depend on God’s grace. Remember that you are not alone as you seek to learn and grow. God is holding you steady, and he will not let you down. He knows your weaknesses, and he is not surprised by your mistakes. Adjust your perspective, get back up, and step forward in confident obedience.
