Overcoming Powers – Standing in Christ’s Victory
As believers, we must understand that while spiritual powers exist, they have been disarmed from their greatest weapon—legal accusation. The term "powers" (Greek: exousia) speaks of authority delegated to act within a jurisdiction. These powers, operating under principalities, influence cities, systems, governments, and even churches. But Christ has stripped them of their right to accuse us by fulfilling the entire law on our behalf at the cross.
This disarmament was not the removal of their influence over unbelievers, but their inability to lawfully accuse the believer who abides in Christ. When Jesus fulfilled the law, died, and rose again, He triumphed over every legal claim that powers had against humanity. The only time these powers regain strength over a believer is when we agree with their accusations instead of standing firm in our position in Christ.
The root of spiritual warfare is not yelling at demons but refusing to let their lies shape our identity. The enemy works through influence—thought patterns, false religious pressure, cultural strongholds, and fear. But when we understand our righteousness is not earned but inherited through Jesus, our confidence grows. The more revelation we have of the Word, the greater our exousia—our delegated power to stand.
In this battle, we are not victims but vessels carrying the very life of Christ. The seed of Christ in us must grow through daily surrender, truth, and obedience. Our warfare is often less about external battles and more about internal victories. Every time we refuse anger, walk in love, resist temptation, or show mercy, we are dismantling the influence of powers in our sphere.
The church teaches these powers the wisdom of God. When we live holy, love our enemies, forgive quickly, and walk in faith, the manifold wisdom of God is revealed to principalities. The enemy watches, confused, as broken people choose joy, hope, and trust in suffering. That’s how we win.
True victory is not just resisting sin—it is being persuaded that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. That confidence keeps us anchored. It empowers us to get up after we fall, to repent, to worship even in our weakness, and to keep pressing forward.
Reflection Questions:
- Have I been allowing guilt or shame to separate me from God's love?
- In what areas of my life is Christ's seed growing—and where is self still ruling?
- Do I recognize how my daily decisions weaken the enemy’s influence?
Action Step:
Today, meditate on Romans 8:38-39 and declare it aloud. Identify one lie the enemy has used to keep you in condemnation, and replace it with a truth from God’s Word. Feed the seed of Christ in you through prayer, Scripture, or worship, and walk boldly in your exousia.
About this Plan

“The Wrestle is Real” is a 7-day devotional exploring the spiritual battle described in Ephesians 6:12, breaking down the ranks of darkness—principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness. It equips believers to recognize the enemy’s strategies, stand in their God-given authority, and shift atmospheres through worship, truth, and obedience. This plan is a call to live alert, rooted in Christ, and victorious through spiritual discipline.
