CollideSample

The Gospels are full of stories of people who needed change. Like us, they were people who needed help—people who needed to know that there was an alternative to the life and circumstances they were currently experiencing. For a lot of them, it seemed impossible to imagine a different kind of life for themselves. Whatever they were experiencing—sickness, loss, or pain—it seemed like it would always be that way. It would take a lot of courage to imagine something different, right? Because hoping for an alternative life meant risking disappointment if it didn’t happen.
Well, sometimes what feels even more impossible is imagining a change inside of ourselves. A change that needs to happen internally is even more challenging because it is more dependent on what we must do to make it happen. Jesus said these words, recorded in Matthew, when discussing the difficulty the rich face in entering heaven. Why? Because changing one's heart for those who have confidence in money is hard. But Jesus’ words remind us that nothing, no matter how difficult the change, is impossible with God. Even the most significant changes that need to happen internally are possible with God. So why not let Him lead us toward them?
Today, discuss with a friend an internal change you would like to make in yourself. Ask for their encouragement to step toward God and believe that kind of change is possible in Him.

About this Plan

Change often feels like a collision. Getting jolted out of the rut of predictability doesn’t always feel good, but it does have the potential to lead to something positive. Scripture is full of examples of people who collided with God and were never the same because of it. That didn’t mean it was always easy, but it did mean they were forever changed as a result. What would it take to put yourself in a position to collide with God?
