From Creation to CallingSample

It’s natural to want to know how we’re doing. Most of us spend our lives quietly measuring ourselves against others. Whether it’s physical appearance, intelligence, popularity, or wealth, there’s often a voice in our heads ranking us, asking who’s ahead of us and how we can move up a spot or two. But maybe we’re asking the wrong question, or even standing in the wrong line altogether.
When the disciples asked Jesus who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, He could have given them a checklist of spiritual gold stars: pray more, be nice to everyone, think pure thoughts. Instead, He pointed to a child and said that this was the picture of true greatness.
Think of a child you know. Trusting. Loving. Curious. Eager to learn. Ready to forgive. Jesus taught that becoming childlike in our relationship with God, and in the way we treat others, is the very definition of success.
So what does it mean that unless you “become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”? It means learning to depend on Jesus fully and living with humility like a child.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean that unless you “become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven?”
- If you were to change and become humble and dependent on Jesus, what’s the first change you’d make?
