From Creation to CallingSample

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the here-and-now that we lose sight of eternity. You probably have someone (a coach, parent, teacher or mentor) who reminds you of how your actions and decisions today will affect your future. Whether it’s what you eat, how hard you study, how you date, or how hard you practice, there’s a link between what you do now and your future. These next 60-70 years can seem like forever, but the Bible is quick to remind us that there is an actual forever. What you do today will influence your eternity – the opportunity to spend forever in the fullness of God’s presence. If you are a disciple of Jesus, this fragile and decaying world will be replaced. Death, what seems like the ending, will become a step into victory, joy, and eternal fellowship with God.
God knew we would struggle to hold on to an eternal perspective when today feels like it’s lasting forever. So He gave us reminders and promises. From the cycle of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly to the joy of someone who discovers the past is forgiven, God has given us a world of tangible reminders of the new life promised in our future. The Bible is full of God’s promises that this world is not all there is and that you were created for much more than what you can see or touch.
So when you are tempted to “live for today” and make decisions that promise immediate results rather than eternal fruit, stop and remember that your life isn’t defined by the months on a calendar but by the God who created galaxies that stretch beyond your imagination. So stand firm in your faith. Invest Let your actions, thoughts, and words reflect the hope of your eternity: forever spent with God.
Reflection Questions:
- How have you experienced victory in your life because of your reliance on Jesus?
- What reminder have you seen lately of God’s ability to exchange life for death?
