From Creation to CallingSample

Genesis tells us that God created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, in His image. God invited them to rule over creation and enjoy a perfect relationship with Him. But when sin entered the world, their connection to God the Creator was broken. Pain, sorrow, confusion, and death taint our relationships with God and others, and even our understanding of ourselves. That’s the bad news. The good news is that God doesn’t leave us in a place of pain and confusion; He sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue us! When we believe and trust in Jesus, our relationship with God is restored, and we begin to grow in our understanding of ourselves and our purpose: to reflect God’s image to the world and invite others to walk in the freedom from brokenness that God provides through Jesus.
Reflection Questions:
1. According to this passage of Scripture, what new identity and role do we now have in Christ?
2. Verses 5 and 9 refer to the people of God as royal priests. Before Jesus came to earth, priests showed people how to approach and please God. How might you begin to fulfill this priestly role?
3. Verse 9 says that God called us out of darkness and into His wonderful light. Can you think of any areas of darkness in your life that God might want to shed His light on?
