Rest and Reset: A 30-Day Devotional to Revive JoySample

Pray without ceasing
Prayer may not prevent a storm from happening, but it will shelter you during it. The Lord listens to every prayer, no matter how small. Prayer isn’t just a means of getting our will done on earth; it’s a way to communicate with God that brings revelation, preparation, strength, protection, and ultimately release—releasing you from carrying your daily concerns while also embracing the Lord’s purpose in your life. Many believers miss out on the blessing of prayer because they view it more as a spiritual discipline than a means of building a relationship. As a result, most settle for quick, microwave-like prayers instead of genuinely engaging with the anticipation that God will fill them with Himself as they communicate through the Holy Spirit.
Now, there are moments for quick prayers; we see this in Nehemiah when he approached the king. The Bible says, 'Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. 'Nehemiah could pray mid-conversation without the king knowing he was praying to the Lord because he spent time in Chapter 1 talking to God first in deep prayer and lament.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul urges us to “Pray without ceasing.” He tucked this verse between Rejoice evermore and In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Paul emphasizes the power of rejoicing, prayer, and a thankful heart. These three practices are the garments for our hearts that will shield our faith and confession when navigating uncertain times. As we examine the economy, the violence occurring worldwide, the incomprehensible acts our fellow believers face in other countries, and the reality of living in a fallen world, prayer remains foundational and is the only sure way to maintain a righteous perspective when life feels chaotic and rushed.
What are your thoughts on prayer? How often do you pray? Honestly, do you believe you have developed a sustainable prayer routine?
For years, when I worked remotely, I prayed during my lunch break at 11 am. But once I returned to the office, I had to adjust the timing and position of my prayers. Since I couldn’t kneel, I would pray on my way to and from work. I would also set aside time on other days, often putting my phone on do not disturb to ensure my prayer time went uninterrupted. There is no excuse for neglecting your prayer life. Falling out of prayer can set you back years and undo much of the faith work you’ve built through prayer over the years, if you’re not careful.
You never know when you will be thrust into a situation that requires a quick prayer and action. If you haven't developed this skill, you might experience failure. You can never pray too much, but you can pray too little. In Luke chapter 18, we see a widow persistently approach an unjust judge for help. Although this judge did not fear God or man, he granted her request because he was worried she would wear him out if he didn’t respond. If an unjust judge will be moved to act on behalf of a request, how much more will our heavenly Father respond to those who cry out to him day and night?
No matter what season you're in today, keep praying. Prayer is your lifeline.
Be encouraged.
