Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper PraiseSample

Hi there, it’s Essential Worship and today’s Scripture is from Nehemiah 9:6 (NIV):
“You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.”
Reading this Scripture immediately made us start humming the lyrics to Matt Redman’s “Here For You” from way back in 2011. Isn’t it so lovely when our favorite worship songs directly mirror Scripture?
“You alone are holy
Only You are worthy
God, let Your fire fall down”
We’ll be the first to admit that sometimes it’s hard to praise God, especially when our circumstances are less than joyful. In the midst of illness, suffering, chronic pain, loss, financial hardship, fear or any multitude of trials - it can be hard to call God good (even if we know it’s the truth). That’s when songs like this become our anchors.
When suffering threatens to drown us, we can still sing of His holiness. God is still set apart. He is still our healer. He is still our God.
When everyone has disappointed us, wounded us, or broken our hearts, we can still sing of His worthiness. He is still worthy to open the scroll. He is still the only one worthy to take upon all of our sins and shame.
And when we find our lives in shambles, hit with the most unimaginable pain - we can still sing “God, let your fire fall down”. We can plead for His justice, His healing, His hope, and His mercy. We can pray for His Spirit to fall upon us and bring new life into our lungs, stories, families, and friends.
Challenge:
Worship is hard - especially when you don’t feel like it, especially when it’s so much easier to blame God for the trials of our life. And yet, He is still so worthy of our worship - just because of who He is and what He’s done for us.
We want you to take a moment today to pick one attribute of God or a phrase that you can cling to today, just one thing to focus on. Then, pick a corresponding song and worship Him fully - even if for a minute. He is so glorified, even in your broken worship.
Amen!

About this Plan

We're called to worship God, but how do we do that well? And what does it look like? Join us for the next 30 days as we study the act of worship and praise throughout Scripture alongside Elevation Worship, Matt Maher, CAIN, Matthew West, Bethel Music, and more! Our prayer is that you would feel on fire for the Lord and He would be magnified through your worship at the end of these 30 days.
