All the Feels - Leading Our Emotions

DAY 2 OF 30

Day 2: LEAD NOT LED

Our feelings can be one of the most powerful forces in our lives. But are they supposed to be? What should be leading our decisions, actions and responses? Ultimately, what we choose to do with "how we feel" determines if we are walking in obedience to God’s will.

Many times thoughts or feelings will come over us without a conscious choice and it’s how we respond to these feelings that matters. All of us are accountable to the Lord for our actions, regardless of how strong the emotional pull is.

Most people naturally let their feelings drive their actions. We may not even recognize when we do, because it's just so instinctive. The Bible tells us it's supposed to be the other way around! We are to, "...take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5b, NIV)

We are called to lead our feelings not be led by them. Our emotions are tricky, deceitful and compelling; incredibly difficult to restrain or properly filter at times. The question is, will we choose to bring our feelings under submission to how God’s Word says we are to live? Will we decide to walk in trust, reliance and delight in the Lord rather than react impulsively? Choose today to guard your heart and take captive "all the feels" so you won't be led by them.

About this Plan

All the Feels - Leading Our Emotions

Feelings. We all have them. Some of us speak them out loud while others silently shut down. As we walk through life experiencing the highs and lows of celebrating, grieving and everything in between—what happens to us and our relationships when we let what we feel drive what we do? How can we lead our feelings instead of being led by them? Let’s learn how to authentically navigate "all the feels" according to God’s Word without allowing our emotions to cloud our experiences. 30 Day-Devo by Nicole Wiencek with Ashley Clement.
