Reflect

As Jada explained, an adopted child is given a new identity as a member of a new family. The same happens with us when we place our faith in Christ—we become members of Christ’s family, the church. What does it mean to you to belong to Christ? To be part of His worldwide family, the church? What impact does your identity as a Christian have on your daily life?

Being fully loved by God allows us to rest. Remembering that we are His beloved children allows us to pursue our dreams and achieve our goals from a place of security and stability rather than striving. Think about your current goals and dreams, and why you are pursuing them. Are you attempting to prove your worth or earn someone’s approval? What practical steps could you take to remind yourself of your position in Christ?

We do not earn our position in Christ—He freely welcomes us into His family. Knowing that we are loved by God should free us from the need to perform for Him or the people in our church family. God, not our achievements, makes us worthy.

If you don’t know whether you are “in Christ” or not, talk with a trusted Christian friend, pastor, or family member. Ask them to help you understand what faith in Christ is all about.

If you are a Christian and know that your heavenly Father loves you, write Him a thank-you letter. Tell Him how much it means to you to be His child, to know His love, and to enjoy His blessings. Read it aloud to Him.
