Made New: A 15–Day Devotional on Colossians 3 With Jada EdwardsSample

Becoming a Christian does more than save us from the penalty of our sin; it changes us. In this devotional, Jada explains how our thoughts, feelings, desires, and priorities shift to align more fully with Christ as we mature in our faith.
Reflect
Jada began this devotional with a summary of Colossians 1 and 2: Christ, who is fully God, reigns supreme over creation. He is the reason we’ve been reconciled to God, and all creation submits to His authority. What do you think it looks like to let Christ be the ruler of your life? In which areas do you struggle to let Him rule?
Jada described how her view of church shifted after she realized God was calling her and her husband to plant a church. Every new observation came through her new identity as a church planter. Similarly, events in our lives should be filtered through our new identity in Christ. In what ways does your identity as a Christian affect your decisions? How does it make you live differently from the people around you?
Respond
If Christ has altered our identity, our desires will also change. We should view our interests, passions, circumstances, and relationships through a Christ-colored lens—even difficult situations.
Write down one pressing situation that is regularly on your mind. What would change in your thinking if you considered it in light of your identity in Christ? Ask God to help you consistently keep Him at the forefront of your mind when you are confronted with this situation.
