Causin' a Stir: Thirst Quenching Essentials for Satisfying Your SoulSample

DAY 14 — WHEN LOVE IS HARD TO GIVE
Let’s be honest—sometimes love is hard to give.
We know we’re called to connect with one another by loving others, but some people test that calling to its limits. Maybe it’s the coworker who grates on you, the family member who drains you, or the person you have to spend all day with even though they drive you crazy.
Here’s the truth: we can’t do this on our own. That’s why our prayer must be, “Lord, I can’t love them. You’re going to have to love them through me.” Sometimes it starts with what feels like faking it—choosing kind words, a gentle tone, or helpful actions—even when your heart isn’t in it. But as you ask God for help, He begins changing your heart until His love becomes real in you.
When love is hard to give, ask God to love through you until your heart catches up.
And sometimes, love doesn’t abound at all. Maybe you’ve been wounded, betrayed, or deeply wronged. Perhaps you’ve lived through abuse or been crushed by someone’s words. The scars still shape every gathering, every memory, every part of your life. What then?
That’s where we begin by facing our own hearts: confessing any bitterness, laying down self-blame, and asking God to speak His truth louder than the lies. Then, we ask for His help to forgive—because forgiveness frees us from living chained to the hurt.
Drink Deep
Who is hardest for you to love right now? Whisper this prayer: “Lord, I can’t. But You can. Love them through me.” Take one action step of kindness toward them today, and trust God to grow your heart.
