From Need to MaturitySample

Day 1 — Our Fundamental Needs: Recognizing the Longing Within
Scripture: Galatians 2:20 | Matthew 4:1–4
We all wake up each day with the same basic longings:
Resource — Safety — Identity.
They are not weaknesses; they are how we were made. The question is where we turn to have them met.
In the wilderness, Jesus faced those same temptations.
“Turn these stones to bread…” — Resource yourself.
“Throw yourself down…” — Prove your safety.
“Bow down to me…” — Make yourself something.
Yet Jesus anchored Himself in His Father, His source, His safety, His identity.
Pause & Reflect:
- Where do I turn for resource when I’m running low?
- How do I try to make myself feel safe?
- What am I using to define my worth?
- What would it mean to bring those needs openly to God today?
Journal Reflection:
- What longings do I notice in me today?
- How might I let God meet them?
Prayer:
Father, I confess how often I try to meet my own needs apart from You. Teach me to find my life in You, my resource, my safety, my identity, Amen.
