You Were Born To Be God’s Child

You’ve probably heard it said that someone was “born” to do something. Children who grow up to be competitive swimmers are often said to have been “born in the water” or “born with flippers.” People who are amazing at gardening are said to have been “born with a green thumb.”

The main idea behind this phrase is there is something inside a person that makes them perfectly suited for their task. Whatever it is, whether they were born to swim, to garden, or to play an instrument … whatever it is, it is an essential part of who they are.

This same idea is true when talking about being born into the family of God. Becoming a Christian is not simply something you do to pass the time, or because you think it might be beneficial. Becoming a Christian is a rebirth of who you are.

Colossians 2:13 says, “Being dead in your trespasses … He has made you alive together with Him.” Picture the scene of a hospital room during the delivery of a baby. This is exactly how you entered the family of God!

Though you were dead in your sins, God gave you new life through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ! You were born to be God’s child, to live in fellowship within God’s family, and to represent your heavenly Father by the way that you treat others with loving kindness. This is who you are.

Prayer for the day:

Today, thank God for giving you a place in His family through the saving work of Jesus Christ. Pray that your faith in Christ will not become just something you do, but will be essentially who you are, and ask God to help you live as someone who has been born into the family of God.
