SUBMITTING TO YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS

Your parents are both your physical and spiritual authority. Consider this, when God created you he gave you to your specific family. This didn’t happen by accident, as a God of perfection makes no mistakes. God put you in your family for a specific purpose, and he gave your parents authority over you. They are not perfect, but their position in your life is from God. Just because your parents may have screwed up, doesn’t remove their wisdom or right to teach you. Sometimes the best teaching will come from how not to do something. You don’t always have to agree with your parents, but you do have to give them honor. This means you are not curse at them behind their backs, mock them online, rebel against their rules, or take their blessing you for granted. What is interesting is that this is the only commandment with a promise attached “that your days may be long.” Choose submission to authority and receive the promises of God.
