Finding Jesus In HanakkuhSample
Day 8
Jesus is the Light of the World (Eternity)
Scripture: Rev 22:5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
Teach: We started this devotional series in the very first chapter of the Torah, and as we now come to our concluding reading concerning “Finding Jesus in Hanukkah,” we find ourselves at the pinnacle and at the fullest manifestation of “light” that we found in Genesis 1:3. When we think about everything that we have read about Hanukkah so far, “light” has been the thread woven through our readings. We have seen how “light” has guided, challenged, and sustained mankind for over seven millennia. So many people have falsely associated light with that large star that we call the sun. How misleading that coloration can be. Let us not forget that God created light on day one, and the sun was created on day four. Light in itself is not dependent upon the sun, and we see this perfectly illustrated and prophetically foretold in the last book of the Bible.
In chapter 22 of the book of Revelation, we are told about the New Heaven and New Earth. There are many things mentioned, but the one thing that has often reminded me how limited and deficient my view of the resurrected and glorified Christ is, is found in this chapter where it states, “And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them.” I cannot comprehend in my own finite mind how this works (and I am probably not supposed to), but I am fully convinced of the power of the Scriptures and, more importantly, the power of my Savior. I cannot wait to live in a world where we do not need a greater star to rule the day or a lesser one to rule the night. Jesus is not only the Light of this world, but He is the Light of the world to come, in which there is no end. When this world is rolled up like a scroll, the only things that will remain will be His Word and the souls of men. Those who choose to follow the greatest candlestick of all time will dwell in His Light forever.
Prayer: Lord, allow me to never lose sight of what is waiting for me in eternity. Fix my eyes upon the days to come where you will light up a world that has no end.
