God Fights For UsMuestra
Realize His Grace
Our perspective of things causes us to make decisions based on what we can see and understand at a given moment in time. We are finite beings, so our understanding of different situations is based on what we can analyze from what surrounds us, plus our past experiences. Sadly, we often make decisions in a rush. We do not ask for counsel, and sometimes the people we love end up paying the price for our bad choices or helping us to solve a problem that was not theirs to solve. They do it because they love us. They decide to fight for us even though it is not their responsibility.
Today, I want to share the background to the story we have been reading for the past few days. We know that God fulfilled His promise and fought for His people, but why did they get into battle? All of this started in Joshua chapter nine verse three. The Gibeonites were neighbors of the Israelites. When they heard about the victories the Israelites were having, they decided to trick God’s people into a peace treaty, pretending to come from very distant lands. They did this because they were afraid of them. The battle that came later happened because Joshua made a treaty with these people before consulting God. Can you believe this? They were tricked into the treaty, so they had to keep their word and protect them.
This whole story is surrounded and covered in God’s amazing grace. Joshua made a bad decision, and God, in His grace, fought the battle for Joshua. He did not pray about that initial decision; He did not consult God nor include God in his decision. Nevertheless God, in His grace, decided to fight for His people. Every single battle that the Lord will fight for you and me will take place because of His grace. We surely do not deserve this, but this is what the Cross is all about. Love.
Someone who did not deserve to pay for our mistakes decided to take our place, to pay for our faults. That is how amazing God’s love and grace is for us. May the realization of how much this cost Jesus, teach us to make decisions and plans according to God’s heart.
