The Best: Part 2Muestra

The Best: Part 2

DÍA 6 DE 8

Prayer: Father, you have provided a satisfaction beyond anything wealth can obtain. Your gift of eternal life is proof of your greater understanding of my needs than even I have for myself. Help me see the greater worth of your wisdom above the empty promises of this world.

More than Money

“Money can’t buy happiness” is a phrase we can quickly reject with the thought that “it sure seems to help.” But while the Bible speaks at length about the value of wisdom in using and investing our money, the Bible also affirms that wealth cannot ultimately satisfy the deepest longings of our souls. The largest bank account balance still cannot be transferred beyond this life, and the greatest fortune can still be lost in the blink of an eye.

When we consider the marks of success in our lives, we have to look past what we have earned and consider the effects of our actions on the eternal souls of the people around us. God calls us to run a greater race than the 9–5 chasing of higher financial compensation. We are called to view our lives through a wider lens, which pushes us to dedicate our greatest energies towards knowing our God and making Him known!

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  1. Where am I trusting my worldly treasures to provide lasting security?
  2. What are my parameters for “success” in life? How do those parameters align with God’s greatest commands to love Him with all I have and to love my neighbor as myself?

What’s Next?

  1. Choose one possession or activity to fast from this week. God has given us the spiritual discipline of fasting to remind our hearts and minds that He can provide what this world can never hope to give us.
  2. Ask a friend to hold you accountable in your fast, maybe through daily check-ins or even through holding onto a possession you would like to step away from over the course of this week.
