COVID-19 IS A WORD NOT A SENTENCEMuestra
Being Subjects and Not Objects of God’s Big and Wonderful Story
Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik says that the fundamental goal of human existence is to transform ourselves from being an object to a subject. God is in the process of writing His beautiful story for our lives. We need to willingly allow Him to fulfill the purposes He has planned to be accomplished in and through our life.
Dennis Prager, says there are two categories of unhappy people:
1. Those who feel that they are victims
2. Those who have the spirit of entitlement.
The attitude of a person who is constantly saying he/she is a victim is to find excuses all the time for life’s situations. There is no place in the Christian life for playing the victim card. Often people keep telling themselves ‘poor me. I deserve better, I should have been treated well, I should have been loved.‘ Self-pity is pride turned inward.
In the book of Genesis, the Bible tells us that Joseph was sold by his brothers, falsely accused, put into prison, and faced many hardships. Everything went wrong for him, but he continued to trust God. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph says: You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. In Christ Jesus we are victors not victims.
The extent to which we increase our spirit of entitlement, we decrease our level of happiness. The spirit of entitlement says everybody ought to respect me, do good to me, appreciate me, love me, and so on. Let us be clear on this: nobody owes us anything. Rather, we are called to love, forgive, and bless others. As Paul says, owe nothing to any man except to love them. The word ‘miser’ is closely related to ‘misery’. When I’m not freely blessing and giving to others, I’m decreasing my level of happiness. Jesus clearly said, “The Son of man did not come to be served but to serve”. One of the ways He demonstrated this was by washing His disciples’ feet.
By the power of God, in the leading of the Spirit, by His amazing love for me, and in the assurance of His wonderful promises, I am the subject of God’s beautiful plan for my life. My obedience, humility, and gratitude will allow God to transform me and demonstrate His power in and through my life for His glory. God takes lives that have been rejected and hurt and makes them a subject of great value. (1 Corinthians 1:26)
As we submit to God, love Him, and obey His word He will use us for His glory.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help me to always be grateful to you and learn to forgive and bless those around me. Make me a subject of Your glory. In Jesus‘ name, Amen.

Our fears interpret certain words as if they are a sentence. Cancer is a word, not a life sentence. Likewise, COVID-19 is just a word. The majority of people affected, recover. The purpose of this devotional is to encourage believers to look up during the lockdown, to be set free from fears by the power of the Spirit so that we can live without boundaries.
