Resting in God’s Love

Continuing our meditation about resting in God’s love, in Zephaniah 3:17 the Bible tells us that the awesome God lives amidst us, He will quieten us with His love, He exults over us with joy. As human beings we are longing to be loved, wanting people to love us, accept us, and appreciate us. We can go through life seeking love and become frustrated and dejected thinking that we can never be deeply loved. But God loves us unconditionally. His love is not dependent on us, who we are, or what we do.

Just like the father of the prodigal son rejoiced in the return of his son, so does God when we turn to Him. Enjoying God’s love brings healing and comfort. God says He loves us despite our failures, our fears, and our doubts. He knows everything about us and still loves us. May we respond to this awesome love of God by turning away from sin and accepting His love and celebrating Him.

Pastor Edmund Chan, senior pastor of the Covenant Evangelical Free Church in Singapore observed that when we are secure in God’s love, we have “nothing to prove, nothing to lose, and nothing to hide”. We can express our views, but we necessarily do not have to win every argument. We can rest in His love.

May we learn to live in quietness and rest knowing we are loved by God. He rejoices over us with shouts of joy. God is excited about us, exuberant over us. Rejoice in the Lord because He rejoices over you.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to rest securely in Your unconditional love. As I rest in You, keep my heart free from sin. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

COVID-19 IS A WORD NOT A SENTENCE

Our fears interpret certain words as if they are a sentence. Cancer is a word, not a life sentence. Likewise, COVID-19 is just a word. The majority of people affected, recover. The purpose of this devotional is to encourage believers to look up during the lockdown, to be set free from fears by the power of the Spirit so that we can live without boundaries.
