How the good news reaches people
Believers who live in the time after Jesus’ death and resurrection and who have received the Holy Spirit in their hearts are especially blessed. They know so much more about God’s salvation plan than all those people who lived in the centuries before. Even angels “long to look” into the mystery of God the Son becoming a human, suffering and dying on a cross so that people can be set right with God again and receive eternal life.
Peter says that both God and humans are involved in the spread of this good news. The Holy Spirit speaks through people who preach the Gospel. In Romans 10:14-15, the apostle Paul refers to the same topic: “How are [people] to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”.
God could have chosen to bring people to faith by using dreams, inner voices, or even a voice from heaven. But these are not His usual ways of speaking. God has chosen to spread the good news through the preaching of His Word. That puts a huge responsibility on us Christians to go and tell others who do not yet know the Lord.
Are you ready to do that?
