Judges: 10-Day Devotional Reading PlanMuestra

Idols have no actual substance. They aren’t real. Idols are manufactured in people’s hearts and are then given some sort of shape by human hands. People make idols because they want a god that they can control, one that will bless them in the way and time they want. The Lord God of the Bible doesn’t bless that way. He blesses on His terms, not ours.
Idols never bless. They only take away, which is what Judges shows us. That’s because God has designed us to flourish only as we worship Him. When we center our hearts and lives on God through the Lord Jesus Christ, we are transformed to be more and more like Jesus. God made us in such a way that we are always conformed to what we focus on.
Reflection:
We aren’t tempted to worship fertility statues today, but we are tempted to make other kinds of idols. What did you learn about idols and how they get a grip on us? What particular idols tend to draw you away from trusting in the Lord? Reflect on when and why you find yourself tempted.
