Is it just me, or is the word "trauma" being used pretty casually lately? "Oh wow, that exam was so hard I'm traumatized," or, "No! My crush is dating someone. How am I going to process this trauma?" And hey, I understand the desire to laugh about difficult things. I do. But sometimes, traumatic things really do happen to us. We lose people we love. We see horrible things happen. We're treated cruelly or unjustly. When that happens, hope can seem lost. When Jesus died, the people who loved him (and watched him die) were almost certainly experiencing trauma. I think Jesus knew that, too, because when he showed up again after miraculously rising from the dead, he gently showed his friends his scarred (but now living) hands and told them to be at peace. I don't know what kind of difficult things you're experiencing right now or what you'll experience in the future. But when you do experience a painful plot twist or two, I hope you remember, when all seems lost, Jesus is our hope.
