Held Together

There are many things we can place our hope in, but not all of them will stand the test of time. We often fall into the trap of placing our hope in things that will ultimately let us down. We depend on political candidates who may or may not keep their promises. We find stability in our careers, health, financial status, or achievements when none of those things can add any actual value to our lives. We find confidence in social media, the accolades of others, or the comfort of our relationships, as if the validation of others is what our souls long for most. We could make a never-ending list of the things we seek for affirmation, approval, and security.

While none of those things are inherently bad, they cannot provide us with true meaning. God is not upset if we seek promotions, financial stability, and healthy relationships. The difference lies in making sure that our ultimate source of security is the Lord. He alone can satisfy the longings of our souls. He alone can give us eternal life. His approval is what matters most. When we anchor our hope to his love, we will not be disappointed. While careers, relationships, and circumstances change, God never does. His love for us is steady and perfect. He is reliable through all of life’s storms, and he is our firm foundation in every season of the soul.

God’s love and faithfulness to you are not dependent on the circumstances of your life. He is the one thing that never changes. He is the only constant, and when your hope is anchored to him, it will remain steady even when everything else crumbles around you. You can hold your other goals with open hands, knowing that they are secondary to the unshakeable hope you have in Christ. He alone sustains you and provides for you no matter what.
