Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

DAY 24 OF 31

The Deep Longing of the Soul

In Song of Songs 3:1-5, the bride awakens in the night, searching for her beloved with a deep, yearning desire. This powerful image speaks to the heart’s innate longing—our nephesh, or soul—craving connection, love, and belonging. The soul’s desire is purposeful: it drives us to seek the One who satisfies fully and sustains life.

Paul’s closing words in 2 Thessalonians remind us that God has called us for a life marked by steadfastness and encouragement. Our purpose as followers of Christ is to hold fast to the hope we have been given, supporting one another as we live out our calling in a broken world.

Reflection Question:
What does your soul long for today, and how can you invite God to satisfy that deepest desire with His presence?

Prayer of Illumination:
Holy Spirit, awaken my soul to seek You above all else. As I read and listen, help me recognize the deep longings You have planted within me and lead me into the fullness of life only You can give. Open my heart to receive Your Word and live with renewed purpose. Amen.

About this Plan

Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
