Reading With the People of God #15 Purposeಮಾದರಿ

Purpose Beyond Comparison
What makes a life truly meaningful? Wisdom or success? Foolishness or simplicity? Does it even matter?
Ecclesiastes 2:12-16 continues the author's honest search. He compares wisdom and folly, effort and ease, and comes to a sobering conclusion: both the wise and the fool meet the same end. Death is the great equalizer. And so again, the question rises:
What’s the point?
Galatians 4–5 offers a radically different lens.
Paul reminds us that in Christ, we are not slaves to futility, fear, or performance—we are sons and daughters, adopted into God’s family, filled with His Spirit, and called to walk in freedom and love. The purpose of our lives isn’t measured by how we compare to others or what we accomplish in the end—it’s defined by who we belong to now, and how we walk by the Spirit in everyday faithfulness.
As you read today, notice how Galatians shifts the question. Life isn’t about what legacy you leave behind, but about the life of Christ being formed within you today.
Reflection Question:
Am I living today more like a spiritual orphan trying to prove myself, or as a child of God walking in freedom and purpose?
Prayer of Illumination:
Father, help me to see clearly through your Word. Speak into the parts of my heart that strive, compare, or despair. Remind me who I am in Christ, and teach me what it means to live by the Spirit. Fill me with your freedom and shape my life around your purpose. Amen.
About this Plan

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
