Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

DAY 8 OF 31

Purpose in Community and Strength in Unity

Ecclesiastes 4:1-12 highlights the reality of human brokenness—oppression, loneliness, and injustice—but also points to the profound value of companionship. The Preacher observes that there is strength, comfort, and purpose found in walking life’s journey together. This passage reminds us that we were created for relationships and that community shapes our meaning and resilience.

In Ephesians 3, Paul prays for the church’s spiritual empowerment, revealing God’s eternal purpose: to bring unity between all people through Christ. Our individual purpose is connected to the larger story of God’s family—a purpose lived out in love, rooted in the mystery of Christ dwelling in us.

Together, these passages call us to consider how purpose is not just personal but communal. We are called to bear one another’s burdens, celebrate shared victories, and reflect God’s glory as a united people.

Reflection Question:
How is God inviting you to live out your purpose in relationship with others, both receiving and offering support?

Prayer of Illumination:
Lord, open my heart to the gift of community and the strength found in unity. Teach me how to live purposefully within your family, bearing love and encouragement to those around me. By your Spirit, empower me to reflect your glory through relationships grounded in grace. Amen.

About this Plan

Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
