Are you the kind of person who loves to get gifts? Is gifting part of your love language? Or are you the kind of person who struggles to receive things from others because it makes you feel uncomfortable? Chances are, most of us fall a little bit in the middle of this spectrum. There’s a part of all of us that loves to be the recipient of a good gift, but there’s another part that tells us we don’t deserve it or shouldn’t accept it. And if that’s how we feel receiving good things from others, how much more difficult must it be for us to receive good things from God Himself? It can be easy for us to discount ourselves from God’s goodness because we don’t think we deserve it and haven’t done anything to earn it. In those moments, it’s important to remember truth from passages just like this one. God has promised to always do good for us. It’s an everlasting covenant that He will never break. But not just that, God takes delight in doing what’s good for us. He experiences real joy in giving us good things in this life. Not because we deserve it, not because we’ve earned it, not because we can ever repay it, but simply because He loves us.

As humans, we all wonder what God is really like? Is God kind, loving, powerful, attentive, loyal? Is God distant, unfair, harsh, judgmental, or absent? In other words, we’re asking: what can we be sure is always true about who God is? In this devotional, we’ll look to Scripture to explore those questions and ground the answers in unshakeable, unchangeable truth, uncovering more about who God is and why we can trust Him not just now, but always.
