Day 4: Good Pressure, Bad Pressure
Scripture: Hebrews 12:11 (NIV)
"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."
Not all pressure is bad. Some of it is actually God's tool.
The pressure that pushes you to study harder, train more consistently, show up when you don't feel like it, that kind of pressure builds something. It's uncomfortable, but it's productive. It's forming you into someone with more capacity, more discipline, more character.
The problem is when you can't tell the difference between pressure that's growing you and pressure that's crushing you. Between the coach who pushes you because they believe in you and the voice in your head that says you'll never be enough. Between the standard that calls out your best and the expectation that makes you feel like your best will never be good enough.
Here's a rough test: pressure that grows you usually comes with a sense of purpose. It's hard, but it's pointing somewhere. Pressure that crushes you usually comes with shame. It doesn't push you forward. It just makes you feel like you're failing.
God uses the first kind. The second kind is usually not from Him.
Learning to tell the difference is one of the most important things you can do. Because not every pressure deserves your energy. And not every voice telling you to do more, be more, perform more is worth listening to.
Reflect: What's one pressure in your life right now that's growing you? What's one that's just crushing you? How do you know the difference?
Today: Name both out loud to God. Ask Him to help you lean into the first one and release the second.
