Revelation 19

1 After these things I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a vast throng in heaven, saying,
āHallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 because his judgments are true and just.#tn Compare the similar phrase in Rev 16:7.
For he has judged#tn Or āhas punished.ā See BDAG 568 s.v. ĪŗĻĪÆĪ½Ļ 5.b.α, describing the OT background which involves both the vindication of the innocent and the punishment of the guilty. the great prostitute

The Wedding Celebration of the Lamb
6 Then#tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as āthenā to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative. I heard what sounded like the voice of a vast throng, like the roar of many waters and like loud crashes of thunder. They were shouting:#tn Grk ālike the voice of a large crowdā¦saying.ā Because of the complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation by supplying the words āThey were.ā
āHallelujah!
For the Lord our God,#tc Several mss (×2 P 1611 2053 2344 pc ĆK lat ) read āthe Lord our Godā (ĪŗĻĻĪ¹ĪæĻ į½ ĪøĪµĻĻ į¼”Ī¼įæ¶Ī½, kurio" Jo qeo" Jhmwn). Other important mss (A 1006 1841 pc), however, omit the āourā (ἔμῶν). Further, certain mss (051 ĆA) omit āLordā (ĪŗĻĻιοĻ), while others (including ×*) change the order of the statement to āGod our Lordā (ὠθεĻĻ į½ ĪŗĻĻĪ¹ĪæĻ į¼”Ī¼įæ¶Ī½). The expression āthe Lord God, the All-Powerfulā occurs in 6 other places in Revelation (1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7; 21:22) and the pronoun āourā is never used. Scribes familiar with the expression in this book, and especially with the frequent ĪŗĻĻĪ¹ĪæĻ į½ ĪøĪµį½øĻ į½ ĻανĻοκĻάĻĻĻ (kurio" Jo qeo" Jo pantokratwr; āthe Lord God, the All-Powerfulā) in the OT Prophets (LXX; cf. Jer 39:19; Hos 12:6; Amos 3:13; 4:13; 5:8, 14, 15, 16, 27; 9:5, 6, 15; Nah 3:5; Zech 10:3), would naturally omit the pronoun. Its presence may have arisen due to liturgical motivations or to conform to the expression āour Godā in 19:1, 5, but this seems much less likely than an aversion to using the pronoun here and only here in the Greek Bible in the fuller title ĪŗĻĻĪ¹ĪæĻ į½ ĪøĪµį½øĻ į½ ĻανĻοκĻάĻĻĻ. the All-Powerful,#tn On this word BDAG 755 s.v. ĻανĻοκĻάĻĻĻ states, āthe Almighty, All-Powerful, Omnipotent (One) only of Godā¦(į½) ĪŗĻĻĪ¹ĪæĻ į½ ĪøĪµį½øĻ į½ Ļ. ā¦Rv 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7; 21:22ā¦ĪŗĻĻĪ¹ĪæĻ į½ ĪøĪµį½øĻ į¼”Ī¼įæ¶Ī½ į½ Ļ. Ļį½ø β. fine linen, linen garmentā¦Rv 18:12ā¦16; 19:8, 14.ā (for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints).#sn This phrase is treated as a parenthetical explanation by the author.

I threw myself down#tn Grk āI fell down at his feet.ā BDAG 815 s.v. The use of āonlyā helps to bring this nuance out in English. a fellow servant#tn Grk āfellow slave.ā See the note on the word āservantsā in v. 2. with you and your brothers#tn The Greek term ābrotherā literally refers to family relationships, but here it is used in a broader sense to connote familial relationships within the family of God (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. į¼Ī“ελĻĻĻ 2.a). who hold to the testimony about#tn The genitive ᾿ĪĪ·Ļοῦ (Ihsou) has been translated as an objective genitive here. A subjective genitive, also possible, would produce the meaning āwho hold to what Jesus testifies.ā Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.ā

Due to the lack of the preposition āinā (į¼Ī½, en) after the verb (βεβαμμĪνον αἵμαĻι, bebammenon {aimati), and also probably because of literary allusions to Isa 63:3, several mss and versions seem to have changed the text to āsprinkledā (either ῄεĻανĻιĻμĪνον [rJerantismenon] in P 2329 al; į¼ĻĻανĻιĻμĪνον [errantismenon] in 1006 1841; į¼ĻĻαμμĪνον [errammenon] in 2053 2062; or ῄεĻαμμĪνον [rJerammenon] in 1611; or in one case ĻεĻιĻεĻαμμĪνον [perirerammenon] in ×[2]).
