If someone asked you to describe the most peaceful sound in the world, you might say a baby laughing, soft rain, or a bubbling stream. Well, apparently you would be wrong. It seems we feel most at peace when we're just seconds away from eating one of the world's most delicious foods.
In a new survey from the Daily Mail, the number one sound that helps people feel most at peace is... the sound of sizzling bacon.
Why?
Well it could be that bacon tastes amazing and just the anticipation of that perfect crunch of sizzling pork fat in your mouth is enough to transport you. It could be the emotional connection. Of someone cooking for you. Preparing a morning meal for you. The beginning of a peaceful new day.
The sound of sizzling bacon is thick with biblical comparisons. The mouth-watering anticipation. The memories of being served. Cared for. Of satisfaction. Peaceful satisfaction.
In the Bible, Jesus describes that perfect peace. Perfect peace that only He can give to you; peace, not as the world gives. Not as bacon gives. But only Jesus.
This meditation from the 14th chapter of John will walk you through that peaceful encounter. The peace you have when you dwell in the divine presence of God.
Using your divine imagination and creativity for a moment. Imagine the bacon frying. How does it smell? Where are you? Are you cooking it for yourself? For others? Is someone cooking it for you? Look up. See Christ preparing your breakfast. How do you feel as he whispers for you to sit? Let me serve you. Let me bring you peace. What do you see in his eyes? What does he see in yours?
Today you have the freedom to believe. The liberty to accept. The release to surrender to the promises of God. To be served, cared for, and satisfied merely being in His presence.
Let me pray. The Lord’s peace I leave with you. His perfect peace; not as the world gives but as only God gives, by His grace through faith in His son. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. Let God’s perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge. Amen.
