Prepare the Way

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Traveling through towns, villages, and cities and proclaiming the Kingdom of God, Jesus instructs the disciples to go ahead to every place He will visit and prepare the way. This is His model for ministry.

In every place, Jesus visits the multitudes. They press in to hear His words. So many are hurting and broken, in need of so much. Because He desires that none should perish, Jesus sends out laborers into the harvest field. Up to this point, Jesus has done the majority of the speaking and miracles, but now He makes clear to the disciples that, if they truly wish to follow Him, they must play an active role. He calls them to partner, two by two, and reach as many as possible. It’s systematic — cast the net as wide as possible so that many can hear the truth of who He is.

Jesus appoints seventy to go ahead of Him to every city, village, and home. They are heralds of the Good News, much like John the Baptist. Jesus instructs them to go and prepare the way.

Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. —Isaiah 40:3 (NKJV)

Jesus appoints the disciples, not because of their qualifications or experience, but because He desires that everyone have a chance to hear the Good News. He does not send them alone but together, as partners with Him and each other. More happens if we work together for the harvest.

THE HARVEST IS WAITING FOR YOU… GET READY!

His heart is for all people everywhere. Being a true disciple means that we will prepare a way for the Gospel to reach all and every so that they can hear the truth and have a chance to respond.

The harvest is waiting for you… get ready! It is always God’s heart to partner with us. Jesus told us that the harvest is ready, but the laborers are few. Therefore, He instructs us to pray for more laborers even as we go out into the field. The harvest is waiting for you… get ready!
